Aftercare

Dry Heal Method:

Step 1: After two hours max, remove the plastic wrap from the tattoo and immediately wash off in the shower using lukewarm water and unscented liquid soap. Use a paper towel to pat dry. If you are worried about staining your clothes or bedsheets with excess plasma, you can rewrap the tattoo for the first night and remove it in the morning.

Step 2: Continue washing the tattoo twice a day, once in the morning and once before bedtime. If you find you are sweating a lot in the area, please also wash the tattoo.

Step 3: On the second or third day, you will notice the skin start to flake and scab. That is when you can start moisturizing the tattoo with a light unscented moisturizer. You can apply this as many times as you need when you feel an itching sensation. Avoid heavy creams like Vaseline or Polysporin. I recommend brands like Aveeno or Dove.

Step 4: Continue washing and moisturizing your tattoo until it is fully healed. It roughly takes around a month to heal depending on the size of the tattoo and your skin. You will know the tattoo is fully healed when the surface of the skin is no longer shiny and has a nice matt finish.

What not do do:

  • Do not pick or scratch at your tattoo. You will risk taking out the ink.

  • Keep the tattoo out of the sun. Do not apply sunscreen to the tattoo until it is fully healed.

  • Wear loose clothing around the tattooed area and keep it out of the sun. Avoid wearing jewelry in the area as well.

  • Avoid swimming, tanning, baths or saunas for the first week. Showers are fine, just avoid oversoaking the tattoo.

  • Avoid exercising for the first week of getting tattooed. You can exercise the week after, just make sure you wash the tattoo after.

  • If you have a job that requires a lot of outdoor and/or physical labour, I recommend taking a week off of work for the tattoo to fully scab and avoid infection.
